Jan. 18, 2012 Progressive Marking

I know that some of you are overwhelmed by the amount and density of the material.  Focus on the symbolic equations, the graphs and what assumptions lay hidden behind the graphs.

Also, please be aware that I use 'progressive marking'.  By that I mean I calculate your average using the formula in the Course Outline.  I then compare that grade with your final exam mark.  If, for example, you averaged 60% but got 80% on your final exam then your final grade would be about 70%.   I do not expect you to get 'it' at the beginning but rather by the end of the course.

Experience has shown me that by the end the class average will be about 70%.  If you have any personal concerns feel free to contact me.

Best wishes.

Jan. 3, 2012: WELCOME

To 'get 'the course you MUST read pages 15-30 of the text.  Economics speaks in 3 languages: differential calculus (and other advance mathematics); analytic geometry (graphs); and, words.  The course concerns the standard model of market economics and is taught using graphs and words with only passing reference (not testable) to the mathematical expression of the same concepts.
